Apple explicitly approved “applications” need before collecting the user’s contacts

(dailynewyorknews) – Apple announced Wednesday it will start mobile applications necessary to obtain the explicit permission of the owners of iPhone and iPad applications before collecting and storing information on users’ personal contacts.

The statement was made after a week of revelations that popular social tools like Twitter and the road were just that – sometimes without the user knowing.

“Applications that collect and transmit data to communicate with a user without their prior permission is a violation of our standards,” said spokesman Tom Neumayr Apple in a written statement to CNN and other media.

“We are working to make this even better for our customers, and we did for location services, any application you want to access contact required the explicit approval of the user in a media software in the future . ”

Privacy concerns on the issue erupted last week when a web developer blogs on his discovery that the road, an emerging social demand which limits users to 50 friends, was to enter his address book on your iPhone servers.

After this revelation, Twitter acknowledged that its “Find Friends” feature also lets you store the user’s contacts on their servers.

The fact that contact information is collected and stored is not mentioned explicitly in terms of trail use or privacy policies Twitter.

Twitter said it will update the language used on the site to make it clear what to do with this information – that helps new users find friends already using the site.

Meanwhile, the road to CEO Dave Morin, a former employee told Wired Facebook, a content partner CNN that the company “made a mistake.” He said that his application premise, which is to identify the users closest friends, need access to your contacts.

“We want to connect with anyone in the Way,” said Morin Wired. “Without the information from the contact list, some of these features do not work.”

Road since updated its application to explicitly request permission to collect and store contact lists first.

As I walk and Twitter were the focus of this particular case, privacy has become a concern for some through many of the most popular Web.

Google collects large amounts of data from users of its products (including Gmail, YouTube, Google Reader and Google +) and the fact Facebook. Virtually all the sites that says it takes to improve the user experience. But do not talk in this explanation is often the desire to target advertising more effectively.
