(dailynewyorknews) – Argentina’s President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner was sworn in for a second term of four years Saturday, touting the economic stability of his country in a time of global crisis.
“We are a new Argentina, but we are in a new world with more challenges and more decisions are made in the best interest of our people and society,” he said.
Much of his long speech focused on specific aspects of Argentina’s economy, which is impressive in the context of a global recession.

Industrialization has created more than 5 million jobs during his administration and the minimum wage is the highest in the region, he said.
Argentina’s economy could grow by 9% in 2011, he said.
The growth in the country was one of the main factors that keep the economy afloat, he said.
“I have not read the statistics of consumption. Just go to the streets of anywhere, in any city … know that the market is precisely what allowed to survive the crisis of 2008 and 2009,” he said.
Although there has been much discussion of certain economic indicators, Fernandez has not abandoned his populist side.
“I am not the president of the company,” he said. “I am the president of the 40 million Argentines.”
Fernandez is considered one of the most popular candidates in Argentina since the return to democracy. She was reelected with more than 54% of the vote.
His presidential campaign is the first I had to go, without her husband and former president, Nestor Kirchner. He was president from 2003 to 2007, when Fernandez succeeded him. He died in October 2010.
In an obvious symbol of mourning, Fernandez wore black for swearing in.
And when he took office, he asked God, country and “it” – referring to her husband – to keep the account. His eyes were in tears as she said these words.
“As everyone can imagine, today is not an easy day for this president,” said Fernandez. “Although happiness, despite the overwhelming vote, something – and someone – not found.”
His second term as president until 2015.
