Comment: “Miss Bala” is an entertaining jumble

(dailynewyorknews) – Gerardo Naranjo “Miss Bala” is one of those movies that comes from time to time that captures the imagination of critics and most of us in singing “Hallelujah.”

Whenever this happens, however, one or two criticisms of the mind of another sound mode is a less enthusiastic response. This time it’s mine.

Not to say “Miss Bala” is an entertaining film, well made and reflection. What is. He also returns to the exceptional work of his leadership, Stephanie Sigman, and cooling torsion Noe Hernandez, as menacing gangster who infiltrates his life. It’s just that I was blown away while critics are not exactly a hive mind, when you find a movie that is loved by many colleagues whom I respect who simply “like”, you wonder if n is that for a time, if there is something wrong with you.

Laura (Sigman) is a beautiful young woman in her 20s who lives in Tijuana, Mexico, who dreams of winning the Miss Baja California. The day before, it is an audition for the competition, Laura and her friend (Lakshmi Picazo) Suzu, is also an aspiring beauty queen, ends in a seedy nightclub populated by dangerous men and women who love (including Suzu).

A victim of the “wrong place at the wrong time” syndrome Laura ends up being the only living witness to a massacre by Lino (Hernandez), the drug lord and his local band, as the storm of the club. While searching for the next morning Jessica, Laura made the mistake of trusting an agent of the local traffic, with its history and things are much worse.

Lino has an immediate shine to Laura (who does not?) And start using more brazen in their criminal activities, including the execution of cash across the border in search of weapons, all in exchange for security not only of his father and his brother, but he also Lino fix the beauty contest. It’s like watching the best case of Stockholm Syndrome in the folder.

Laura appears as a woman weak and superficial, and although this is not a problem in itself, can be frustrating to see how a character repeatedly that what for me was obvious errors. On the other hand, I’ve never been in your situation.

I guess you could say I had a failure in my ability to suspend disbelief.

The film was made by experts, however, Naranjo and the director does a great job of creating terror, suspense and pace of the construction of the film that things get darker and darker Laura. Unfortunately, the road made error after error. “Miss Bala” is based on the true story of the former Miss Sinaloa, Laura Zuniga, who was arrested in 2008 for being part of a gang of international drug trafficking.

However, there is enough suspense, action and the quality really poignant scenes of “Miss Bala,” but I felt that I would like better than me.

“Miss Bala” is rated R (under 17 a parent or adult). It is extremely violent clashes with contact and contains a disturbing scene, but no graphic rape.
