Egypt Apologized For The Deaths Of Demonstrators

Cairo (dailynewyorknews) – the military leaders of Egypt apologized Thursday for the deaths of demonstrators during the recent fighting, has promised to prosecute offenders and to pay medical bills for the injured.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces an apology posted on his Facebook page.

“The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces has its deep regret and apologized for the death of martyrs among the loyal son of Egypt during the recent events in Tahrir Square, the message,” he said. “The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces confirmed that it all sincere efforts to prevent such events from happening again.”

The message is as relative calm fell on Tahrir Square after several days of deadly clashes. Soldiers erected barbed wire barricades to separate the protesters and police on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile Ahram online site – part of the group belonging to the state newspaper Al-Ahram – reported that the main political parties in the country are considering asking the Supreme Council to postpone the first round of parliamentary elections in two weeks. These elections are scheduled for Monday.

The site attributes the information to anonymous sources close to the discussions. Tuesday the liberal Wafd floated a similar proposal in a public statement, the website said.

Since Saturday, protesters clashed with police near Tahrir Square – the epicenter of the movement that led to the ouster of former President Hosni Mubarak in February. Were asked to provisional country’s military rulers to resign immediately.

Wednesday, the government said both parties had declared a truce. But three hours later, demonstrators threw stones at police who responded with tear gas. The problems continued into the night.

Grand Mufti of Egypt, the highest religious official in the country, called the police to lay down their weapons and gun “never” the Egyptian people. In an audio message broadcast on state television in Egypt on Wednesday called for a “peaceful protest for the sake of Egypt.”

Last Wednesday was the outcome of the clashes at 35, including 31 people in Cairo and four other cities, state television said.

Another 3250 were injured, said Hisham Sheehan Egyptian Ministry of Health. And the police have arrested countless others.

Major American-Egyptian journalist Mona Eltahawy said in his Twitter page late Wednesday that the agents had arrested him, had been arrested.

The U.S. State Department has called the arrest “very worrying” and said embassy officials were trying to get information from the Egyptian authorities.

Were also arrested three American college students accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail demonstrations.
