Roger Federer beat Potito Starace 7-6 (3), 6-4 in the first roundof the Interior Swiss.

Roger Federer has a winning return after a break of 6 weeks,beat Potito Starace of Italy 7-6 (3), 6-4 on the first lap of hishometown event in Switzerland Monday.

The fourth Federer took time to find his rhythm in bursts, and saved a break point in the comfortable 5-all before winning thetiebreak in the first game.

The Swiss 30 years, then broke the 54th S are ranked Starace in the opening game of the second.

Federer played 18 last September in a Davis Cup match ongrass in Australia, where he beat Bernard Tomic in four sets.

Leading 5-3 in the second, won Federer a first match point with abackhand volley winner overhead, but then recorded a return of service.

He won the match in the next game with a service winner.

Previously collected Marcos Baghdatis from Cyprus to eighthseeded Viktor Troicki of Serbia 4-6, 7-6 (8), 6-2 beat.

Donald Young in the United States was given a wildcard to faceMikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan in the late match.

Kukushkin was as a lucky loser after 30 Jurgen Melzer ofAustria-space promoted returned due to an injury at the end of the season.
