(dailynewyorknews) – Roger Federer is on course to win the tennis championship finish recording sixth of the season after beating David Ferrer in London on Saturday to reach his final lap 100 and the third in the world rankings.
The defending champion won 7-5 6-3 an hour and 25 minutes to set the ATP World Tour final showdown with sixth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Sunday.

He extended his record winning against fifth-seeded Spaniards 12-0 career meetings, and is now unbeaten in 16 games, winning titles in his hometown of Basel and Paris last month.

“It was a tough fight, I could clearly see why David Murray and Djokovic beat here -. He takes the ball early, can generate large angles from the top of his game and is compatible super.
“It was a key for me to take 5-4 and then break the next game. So, in effect, open again early in the second round. This was a kind of criticism of 15-20 minutes for me. I’m glad have been able to determine the party there. ”
Ferrer will now turn its attention to the Davis Cup final, taking Argentina to Spain in Seville on the surface of clay better off next weekend.
He started the week with a bang, beating Andy Murray in straight sets, before the third-seeded British came out with a groin injury.
Ferrer then beat world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, but suffered a surprise defeat to Berdych on Friday, which meant the Czech Republic became the winner of the group and avoid Ferrer in the semis.
Federer, who beat Rafael Nadal in the final last year, reached the title match for the seventh time, after winning four matches this week on the drive inside the court event.
Tsonga continued his strong conclusion of the season with a 6-3 7-5 victory over syvende seed Berdych second half Saturday.
The French seek to avenge his Paris Masters final defeat to Federer also lost to the champion of 16 Grand Slams in Group B meeting in London.
However, the 26 year-old won two of their seven games this year – especially Federer at Wimbledon quarter by one of his first defeat when leading by two sets in a Grand Slam tournament.
