PARIS (dailynewyorknews) – French President Nicolas Sarkozy officially announced Wednesday he is running for reelection.
Sarkozy, who heads the center-right UMP, is behind its main rival, the Socialist candidate, Francois Hollande, in the opinion polls.
In announcing his candidacy through his Twitter account has just been launched, Sarkozy said he is running for a second term would be like leaving your desk.

He said that the reforms undertaken by his government began to produce results and that he intended to give the French back with his voice holding referendums.
The first ballot is scheduled for April 22 with a second round to follow on May 6
The latest polls suggest that Holland is the favorite in the first ballot, which draws support from 30% to 26% Nicolas Sarkozy, according to pollster FIFG.
Other candidates include Marine Le Pen’s Front National far-right, and centrist Francois Bayrou.
